More and more companies are using a VPN these days. But what exactly is a VPN? What are the advantages and disadvantages? And how do they weigh against each other? A VPN is a virtual private network. With a VPN, you create a secure connection. Your online identity is protected by masking your IP address, encrypting your data and sending it through secure networks.

Advantages:

Working from home: A VPN provides secure and reliable access to your corporate networks.

✅ Public network: A VPN connection provides a secure connection when your employees are working on a public Wi-Fi network.

More anonymous online: Internet providers, government agencies and advertising companies cannot track your employees if they use a VPN.

Regional blocking: A VPN helps users bypass geographical area blocking.

Disadvantages:

❌ S lower Internet: The detour of the VPN makes the Internet slower.

❌ C ost: Setting up a VPN connection takes time and money.

Reliable VPN: A VPN provider can indeed see your data and possibly resell it. Therefore, avoid VPNs that store or analyze your data, such as Facebook's Onavo. Also check the privacy terms, as some VPNs record connection times and data usage. This makes your online activities trackable.
