What exactly does maintenance mean?
Maintenance is the control of the management system. Tasks that are important here:
- Perform the annual planning controls (e.g. making backups, testing the continuity plan and checking issued authorizations)
- Measuring and monitoring set objectives.
- Checking whether procedures are actually being followed. For example, before leaving employment when someone leaves.
It is important to remain critical and ask yourself whether your organization is actually complying with the policy that has been drawn up.
Continuous improvement
In addition to complying with the policy, continuous improvement is also a mandatory part of ISO certification (such as the ISO 27001 and ISO 9001). So it is not an option to let your management system dust down. Let's say you've previously decided that one backup per day is enough. But if you're working on a new project with sensitive information now, it's wise to consider whether two backups per day aren't more secure. It is not only about implementing the policy efficiently and effectively, but also about critically assessing it. This is important to keep the management system effective.
Implementation of improvements
Seeing opportunities for improvement is one thing, but this one actually implementing is often easier said than done. Implementing improvements is important to prevent new problems in the future. People are naturally accustomed to routines and changing them is often not without resistance. At Fendix, we understand the norm, we know the policy, and we know how to involve everyone in the organization in these changes.
